Our History

It is never easy if you are honest to tell the history of anything or anyone. So many questions pop up into your head, where do we start, who do we start with, at what point do we start? Because all of this has to tie together, all of this has to make sense and not just to the story teller but also to the story tell-eee, forgive me for the stale sense of humor!! Our story begins as many stories begin: with a man, and a girl.Michael and Florence Kyomya were training future leaders of the church from all parts of Africa and denominations of churches and multifaceted organizations. They and many felt that this was an ideal place for them to be and this would have a lasting impact. But God spoke to them as He often does and told them to move their ministry to Uganda. As both Michael and Florence will tell you it wasn’t an easy decision, it definitely was not the most comfortable one because they had settled in with the ministry and work that was going on in Nairobi. But they heeded the call and moved on, with God, to Uganda.While in Uganda many questions began to race through their minds, should they start an independent church, should they join in to the church that sent them out, the Anglican Church, the Church of Uganda, or should they start an organization that works alongside the church? They sought God for answers and God answered something interesting, He said: Kinda all of the above. Michael and Florence started ministering in the Anglican Church with Michael pastoring in an Anglican Church as vicar of the church together with Florence. Interestingly the time spent in Campus Crusade for Christ and Life Ministry brought them back to engaging with old friends and also ministering to other denominations and non-denominational churches. The ministry was going on but something else was missing. Something else needed to be addressed.Certain problems started catching our eyes: the work ethic among the youth and young adults was more than lacking it was horrible. A certain age group of the population simply wanted everything handed to them without any input or expectation on their part whatsoever. Those that did want to work simply didn’t have the input in anyway. Women had been marginalized to the extent where they had no control of their destinies or that of their families. Women were abused, young girls abused and communities were quiet, and somehow the church was quiet. Teenage pregnancy on the rise. Rate of infection of STD’s on the rise. Salvation was being defined differently by so many people but importantly defined simply incorrectly, so badly so that we kept coming across people who say they are saved but simply did not believe in Jesus, because even our leaders were not trained and sadly so many of them not even called. The state of the economy for so many was bearing down across the whole country that people had simply lost hope, resulting in crime being on the rise. Those were and still are unfortunately very big problems. Then God spoke!!He speaks still.Start an organization that is going to step out in faith to address this problem, not by bashing the church, be an aide to the church, literally a catalyst for the church and its ministry. To aid the church in fulfilling its call, aid the church in treating the body and the soul, to treat the mind and the spirit too. Literally that is when Michael and Florence hired one man and began what we call Hesed. But from that start with help of God and so many of you we grew.God is good and faithful and through the years we have seen many ups, and yes the cliché applies many downs as well. But God has been with us throughout all these times. We have seen God move in so many lives and so many ways. To get a better look at what we are trying to accomplish look at our different programs and take a glimpse into what God is working through us. We believe in treating problems holistically so our programs are all ministry to us but treat issues that are also regarded social as well.One man, one woman came together and had the audacity to say I am believer, and I can make a difference, I can work to bring about change. Hence good friends, our motto is, Hesed International: growing possibilities. .
